DOMAINE LE HAUT VERGER

What a very special place. We knew that immediately. Every reason for a prosperous French family to choose this place in 1920 for their country retreat. Here in this tranquil setting amidst the trees, with its spectacular views across the valley and the river La Creuse, they build a holiday home and a gardener’s cottage.

Le Haut Verger lies in the heart of France in the former Duchy Berry, close to the village of Gargilesse, ‘un des Plus Beaux Villages de France’. This village is named after the river Gargilesse, which flows into the river La Creuse at the foot of our property.

There was a time when the domain was called ‘house of the Quintonine’. Quintonine was an energy drink to which many beneficial properties were attributed: it was supposed to revitalize your spirit and sharpen your mind. The family Lafarge – who spent their holidays in Le Haut Verger – owned the laboratory where millions of bottles of this miracle drink were produced.

Today the house is named Le Haut Verger, ‘The High Orchard’. This tranquil oasis of green with stunning views have remained unchanged over the years. And there is no need for energy drinks anymore. Here you sit down, relax, take in the views and are immediately revitalized!
